Welcome to Minnesotaville!

THE BOB & THE BEACHCOMBERS WING OF THE MUSEUM OF ROCK & ROLL HISTORY

2006
Bob & the Beachcombers

The summer of 2005 and "The Next Generation of Beach Party Fun Tour" was a resounding success, thanks to a unique and synergistic blend of talent and personalities that every band hopes for, but few ever find. It took Bob quite a few years to get it right, but he was having more fun now than he had in years. This is the kind of band he had always wanted the Beachcombers to be!

Unfortunately, after less than a year, Brian had to leave the group because of family and job responsibilities and the band approached the 2006 summer season without a bass player. And as an extremely talented vocalist, bass player, drummer, entertainer and all around fun guy to have around, Brian had set the bar so high, the band was pretty sure he was irreplaceable.

Fortunately, Al had a friend he had known since high school by the name of "Jim Zackary" who could not only play bass guitar, he was a great singer, he loved to dance around on stage, walk out into the audience and work the crowd, and generally act the fool. He was a perfect fit!

After just a few rehearsals, everyone knew that we were on to something big. With fresh ideas, a great variety of new music, four talented musicians who were also professional entertainers, new sound gear, crazy new contests and prizes, and an energized and choreographed show, 2006 was a breakout year for the Beachcombers.

The excitement and enthusiasm on stage was felt by the audiences they performed for with shows in Grand Forks for a Shriners convention, Fridley 49er Days, the Wood Duck Festival in Fulda, and Railroad Days in St. James, followed by a return to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds and the annual Minnesota Street Rod Association convention.

July highlights included a return to Pathfinder Village in Hinckley, our annual 4th of July celebration in Currie, MN, and a trip to Iron River, Michigan, where we were flown to the stage by helicopter!

Dutch Days in Edgerton was followed by Truman Days in Truman,, a beach party at Lake Riley in Eden Prairie, and the "Wings Fling" in Watertown, South Dakota.

August took us to Minong, Wisconsin, for a summer festival, a grand opening of the Redman Hunting Lodge in Summit, South Dakota, our fourth annual show at the huge Brown County Fair in Aberdeen, and an enthusiastic show at the Prairie Meadows Race Track & Casino in Altoona, Iowa.

And this summer the Beachcombers took beach party fun to the next level with the introduction of their new tribute to Jimmy Buffet called "Welcome to Minnesotaville!".

We’ve always loved Jimmy Buffet and we’ve met "Parrotheads" throughout the Midwest who just can’t get enough of "Margaritaville". Minnesota may be short on palm trees and ocean side views, but we’ve got more than 10,000 beaches, lots of sand and water, and plenty of cheeseburgers and cold draft beer. And you can download or listen online to the Beachcomber's almost original theme song:

The "Welcome to Minnesotaville" tribute to Jimmy Buffet was always a hit and when the show itself was not scheduled, our special mix of Beach Boys and rock & roll dance classics from the 60’s through the 80’s along with the best of Buffet was always enthusiastically received.

It’s a fact that the "Baby Boomers" don't rock & roll the way they used to. The generation that used to party all night, nowadays wants to be in bed by 10:00. They've been "Back to the 50's" one too many times and they've given up pop music for talk radio. But they still love the Beach Boys and there's one singer they still relate to - Jimmy Buffet. The Beachcombers were bringing back the "Boomers" and we're the ONLY band in the Midwest that can.
